Ambrose Avenue Group Practice is thrilled to offer an excellent opportunity for a General Practice Assistant (GPA) to join our team on a part-time basis, working 15-17 hours per week.
As a GPA at Ambrose Avenue Group Practice, you will play a vital role in supporting our GPs and enhancing the care experience for our local community.
Main Responsibilities:
Administrative Support:
- Assist clinical staff with daily triage requests, prioritize actions, and arrange appointments, referrals, tests, and follow-up appointments for patient
- Redirect correspondence to other professionals, such as clinical pharmacists.
- Extract key information from letters, accurately code patient data, and update records.
- Manage workflow and prioritize key tasks to help free up GP time.
- Assist with blood pressure checks, urine dipstick tests, ECGs, phlebotomy, and more.
- Support GPs during immunization sessions or wound care.
- Communicate clearly and compassionately with patients about procedures and care.
Coordination and Liaison:
- Serve as an important link between GPs, other clinicians, external agencies, and patients.
- Ensure seamless patient care by collaborating with hospital teams, social services, and community providers.

Essential Skills and Experience:
- Previous experience in an administrative or healthcare role (experience in a GP surgery or primary care is highly desirable).
- Knowledge of patient confidentiality, data protection, and safeguarding principles.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills, with a keen eye for detail.
- Willingness to undertake or already possess a GP Assistant Certificate (or equivalent).
- A commitment to teamwork and the ability to work independently.
Desirable Skills:
- Competency in basic clinical tasks such as phlebotomy and ECG.
- Familiarity with GP software systems (e.g., SystmOne).
- Understanding of the Quality Outcome Framework (QoF) and Investment and Impact Framework (IIF).
Additional Requirements:
- Full UK driving license (for travel between sites, if needed).
- Flexibility to adapt to the evolving needs of primary care.
