Southend Medical Centre is seeking an enthusiastic, highly organised, and motivated Deputy Practice Manager to support the effective management and day-to-day operations of our busy GP practice.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced healthcare administrator, team leader, or operational manager looking to develop their career within primary care. Working closely with the Practice Manager and Partners, you will play a key role in ensuring the delivery of high-quality services for our patients while supporting staff and driving continuous improvement across the practice.
Main Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
• Support the Practice Manager in the day-to-day operational management of the practice.
• Assist in leading, supervising, and supporting administrative and reception teams.
• Ensure the smooth running of patient services and administrative processes.
• Support workforce planning, recruitment, induction, training, and performance management.
• Assist with HR processes, including absence management and staff wellbeing initiatives.
• Monitor and improve operational efficiency, patient experience, and service delivery.
• Support compliance with NHS regulations, CQC standards, information governance, and practice policies.
• Assist with practice projects, audits, and quality improvement initiatives.
• Manage patient feedback and assist in resolving complaints in accordance with practice procedures.
• Support the management of premises, health and safety, and business continuity processes.
• Deputise for the Practice Manager when required.
About You
We are looking for someone who has:
Essential
• Previous experience in a supervisory or management role.
• Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Experience of managing and motivating teams.
• Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
• Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office applications.
• A commitment to providing excellent patient care and customer service.
Desirable
• Experience within a GP practice, NHS, or healthcare setting.
• Knowledge of primary care services and NHS systems.
• Understanding of HR processes and employment legislation.
• Experience with clinical systems such as SystmOne
• Qualification in management, business administration, or a related field.
