Event details

This event will be delivered online and is suitable for Nurses, AHPs GPs and Pharmacists who would like to understand more about the diagnosis and management of diabetes.  The day also enables you to network with colleagues and counts as 6 hours of CPD, using a collaborative learning approach, for your revalidation.

This course is accredited by the CPD Certification Service.

The aim of the course is to provide students with the knowledge and skills they require to undertake venepuncture in general practice.

The one day course consists of:

  • A theory and practical skills.   This is then followed by a period of supervised practice with a nurse mentor.  A competency assessment package will be provided.
  • Please note the workshop takes place in person at the EQUIP training offices in Witham, Essex

All students need to have the full course of hepatitis B vaccination before starting the course in order to complete the practical competency.

  • The composition of blood
  • Anatomy and physiology of blood circulation
  • Common blood tests.
  • Venepuncture technique including a practical session
  • Health and safety
  • Infection control
  • Complications of venepuncture and how to prevent them

Event details

This session is suitable for any prescriber who would like an update on current issues in prescribing practice.  It also offers an opportunity to network online with other prescribers.

This collaborative learning event will count as a minimum of 3 hours of CPD for your revalidation with preparation study time to be added.

Event details

An interactive and engaging approach to delivering a live streamed training session via Microsoft Teams. There is a maximum of 20 delegates on this course to facilitate learning. The trainer uses an interactive tool which can be used for voting, taking part in case studies, sharing ideas/opinions, Q&A’s and makes the course more interesting by being interactive. You will be able to ask questions and interact with the trainer.

Suitable for Nurses, Physicians Associates, Clinical Pharmacists and Paramedics who are involved in, or would like to become involved in, the prevention, diagnosis and management of cardiovascular disease.  The day  counts as 6 hours of CPD, using a collaborative learning approach, for your revalidation.

Event Details

This training course prepares healthcare professionals wishing to undertake the assessment process with the Association of Respiratory Technology and Physiology (ARTP) to become certified in performing spirometry.

The course fee includes registration with the ARTP to complete the assessments.

Learning outcomes include:

  • Pathophysiology of lung disease
  • Equipment used for measuring lung function
  • Cleaning and maintenance of equipment
  • How to perform spirometry to the recommended quality assured standard (practical)
  • Errors and pitfalls
  • COVID and Spirometry in practice

By the end of the course delegates will:

  • Understand pre-test requirements and patient safety
  • Infection control measures for equipment maintenance
  • Equipment calibration/verification both technically and biologically
  • CQC Requirements
  • Recognise common errors when performing the test
  • Understanding technical acceptability and reproducibility
  • Obtain a quality assured spirometry trace, with basic interpretation

Important Information

  • Students booked onto the ARTP Spirometry Certificate will be expected to start their assessment process immediately after the training and will only have 9 months to complete all elements.
  • By attending this course you agree to EQUIP sharing your name and email address with the ARTP.
  • Details of the certificate and supporting information can be found at https://www.artp.org.uk/spirometry-candidate-resources. You will have 9 months to complete all the assessment elements.
  • Courses that start prior to 15 days before the end of the month will be added to the next enrolment, otherwise, you will be enrolled the month after.
  • You will receive an email from the ARTP to advise you that you have been booked onto the certificate and it will give you information on the assessment process to forewarn you.
  • Once you are enrolled with the ARTP you will be emailed on the 1st working day of the month with the link to access the portfolio plus links to book your MCQ and/or OSCE assessments.

A two-day introduction into Contraception Course for Healthcare Professionals.      Facilitated by Valerie McMunn

This is a two-day CPD accredited taught course for health professionals who are giving advice to women regarding their contraception requirement.

These two days will cover the most used methods of contraception, giving the practitioner enough information to be able to discuss the benefits and risks of each method.

The Topics discussed will include:- the menstrual cycle related to methods of contraception, pregnancy testing, emergency contraception, oral contraceptive pills, injectable methods, intrauterine contraception and implants.

The teaching online will include scenarios, storytelling, delegate participation and a quiz.

After having completed the 2 days the delegates should feel confident to conduct a pill check and give injectable contraception as well as be able to give correct advice related to contraception methods. Only qualified staff should apply. These 2 days are also invaluable as a full update in contraception methods.

Event Details

This is a whistle-stop tour through cardiovascular disease, including risk factors – hypertension and dyslipidaemia as well as lifestyle – coronary heart disease, cerebrovascular disease, peripheral arterial disease, atrial fibrillation and heart failure.

The session will include the diagnosis and management of CVD and will focus on the importance of carrying out an effective review of those diagnosed with CVD.

2-day Introduction to Immunisation course

Suitable for healthcare professionals who need to complete a 2-day theory training.

The training will cover all aspects of immunisation practice in line with PHEs Immunisation Training Standards for Healthcare Practitioners tailored to the context of General Practice.

Sessions included

  • The aims of immunisation, national vaccine policy and schedules
  • The immune response to vaccines and how vaccines work
  • Vaccine preventable diseases and vaccines for diphtheria, tetanus, polio, Hib, pertussis, hepatitis B, measles, mumps, rubella, rotavirus, HPV, pneumococcal, meningococcal disease (all strains), flu, COVID and shingles.
  • The different types of vaccines, their composition and the indications and contraindications
  • Current issues in immunisation
  • Legal issues in immunisation
  • Documentation, record keeping and reporting

Please note: the course covers the curriculum knowledge for all the vaccine programmes from 8 week old babies all the way through to 70-79 year olds having shingles vaccine.  Delegates will need to have a Supervisor in the Practice who ideally is a healthcare professional trained and experienced in Immunisation who will sign off their knowledge and skill competency after the course through assessment in practice.
