Are you an experienced Practice Nurse with a passion for diabetes care, clinical excellence, and supporting others to thrive?

Laindon Medical Group is looking for an enthusiastic, motivated, and forward-thinking Practice Lead Nurse to join our friendly, well-established GP practice in Laindon, Essex.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced nurse ready to take the next step in their career, combining hands-on clinical care with the opportunity to lead, support and develop a dedicated nursing team.

A special interest and experience in diabetes management are essential for this role. We are looking for someone who can bring confidence and expertise in diabetes care while contributing to the wider services provided within general practice.

About us

Laindon Medical Group is a long-established, forward-thinking training practice serving a large and diverse local community. We are committed to delivering safe, effective and compassionate care while continually developing our services and supporting our staff.

Our multidisciplinary team includes GPs, practice nurses, GP assistants, healthcare assistants, pharmacists and other healthcare professionals. As a training practice, we value learning, teamwork and the sharing of clinical expertise.

We believe that great patient care starts with a supported, skilled and motivated team, and we want someone who will help us continue to improve our nursing services and patient outcomes.

About the role

As our Practice Lead Nurse, you will play an important role in the clinical leadership and day-to-day development of our nursing team, comprising four practice nurses, two GP assistants and one healthcare assistant.

You will continue to provide hands-on patient care while supporting colleagues, maintaining high clinical standards and helping the team work effectively.

Protected administrative time will be provided for your lead nurse responsibilities, allowing you to focus on team support, clinical governance and service development alongside your clinical work.

We are looking for someone who is approachable, organised and confident in their clinical practice, who enjoys supporting others and is keen to make a positive difference.

Key responsibilities
Your role will include:
• Providing clinical leadership, guidance and support to the nursing team.
• Helping coordinate nursing services, workloads and clinical activity.
• Maintaining high standards of patient safety, infection prevention and clinical governance.
• Supporting staff development, supervision and clinical competencies.
• Contributing to audits, reviews and improvements in clinical practice.
• Supporting the development of diabetes and other long-term condition services.
• Working collaboratively with GPs and the wider multidisciplinary team.
• Helping ensure clinical protocols, policies and patient recall systems are maintained and effective.

You will be supported with protected time to carry out these responsibilities, with opportunities to develop the role alongside the practice team.

Clinical responsibilities and areas of practice

Diabetes management is an essential part of this role. You will be expected to have relevant experience and confidence in supporting patients with diabetes, including routine reviews, monitoring, education and ongoing management within your competence.

Alongside this, we are looking for a well-rounded practice nurse who can contribute to our wider clinical services, including:
• Long-term condition management: Supporting patients with conditions such as hypertension, asthma, COPD and cardiovascular disease.
• Immunisations and preventative care: Contributing to vaccination programmes, health checks and health promotion.
• General practice nursing: Undertaking relevant clinical procedures, such as venepuncture, wound care and other routine nursing interventions.
• Women’s health and screening: Supporting services such as cervical screening, where appropriately trained.
• Patient assessment and safety: Maintaining accurate records, following clinical protocols and recognising when further clinical input is required.

We do not expect you to be a specialist in every area. We are looking for someone with strong core practice nursing skills, a commitment to safe patient care and a willingness to develop their knowledge and skills where needed.

• An approachable, proactive and collaborative working style.

Desirable
• A recognised qualification in diabetes care.
• Previous experience in a senior practice nurse or clinical leadership role.
