The course is delivered by the PCDS (Primary Care Dermatology Society) to a large group of people but offers plenty of opportunity for interaction and a short practical session. If you have a dermatoscope, please bring it with you (and a camera if you use one) – there won’t be any patients but you will be practising on each other. If you don’t have a dermatoscope, don’t worry, we should be able to manage one between 2 or 3 and our sponsoring companies will have a stand with several different types for you to view with no obligation to purchase.

Please note this course is NOT aiming to make you competent to diagnose early melanomas or difficult atypical naevi or anything too challenging. It is the real basics, including how to use a dermatoscope, keeping it clean, taking good pictures through it and concentrating to being able to tell the difference between common lesions such as seborrheic keratoses, BCCs and melanomas.

The course is aimed at people who have either:

  • Never had a dermatoscope but are planning to get one and want to know how to use if before they get one
  • Have a dermatoscope but don’t use it because they don’t know how
  • Have a dermatoscope in the practice but haven’t had much (or any training)
  • Have been using a dermatoscope a bit and would like to feel more confident with the basics as a refresher
