This half day course is for Nurses, HCAs, AHPs, Paramedics and Clinical Pharmacists who would like to update their knowledge and skills in infection prevention and control in a general practice setting including current requirements regarding COVID-19.
Combined Level 1 & 2 Core Skills IPC Training
Level 1:
- Your role and responsibilities in relation to infection prevention and control
- The chain of infection – how infections spread
- Introduction to Standard Precautions – what are they and when do we use them
- Basic principles of Standard IPC Precautions (SICPs)
Level 2: following on from level 1
- The organisation’s responsibilities and your own in relation to current IPC legislation
- How to obtain information about IPC within your own organisation
- What is a healthcare associated infection?
- Applying the chain of infection to everyday practice – group-work
- Routes of transmission (spread)
- Principles of decontamination (equipment) – the 3 levels
- Key decontamination/cleaning products
- Single use items
- The infectious patient – risk assessment
- Principles of isolation / segregation
- Aseptic technique – reducing the risk of infection in direct patient care
