This half day course is for Nurses, HCAs, AHPs, Paramedics and Clinical Pharmacists who would like to update their knowledge and skills in infection prevention and control in a general practice setting including current requirements regarding COVID-19.

Combined Level 1 & 2 Core Skills IPC Training

Level 1: 

  • Your role and responsibilities in relation to infection prevention and control
  • The chain of infection – how infections spread
  • Introduction to Standard Precautions – what are they and when do we use them
  • Basic principles of Standard IPC Precautions (SICPs)

 

Level 2: following on from level 1

  • The organisation’s responsibilities and your own in relation to current IPC legislation
  • How to obtain information about IPC within your own organisation
  • What is a healthcare associated infection?
  • Applying the chain of infection to everyday practice – group-work
  • Routes of transmission (spread)
  • Principles of decontamination (equipment) – the 3 levels
  • Key decontamination/cleaning products
  • Single use items
  • The infectious patient – risk assessment
  • Principles of isolation / segregation
  • Aseptic technique – reducing the risk of infection in direct patient care
