About the role
We are a friendly, busy rural GP Practice looking to welcome an experienced part time Practice Nurse into our practice to support our clinical team. The post holder will work across our two sites: Tillingham Medical Centre and Maylandsea Medical Centre. Working in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols, you will assist the clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care. You will be able to apply your clinical skills and knowledge to carry out high quality practice within designated clinical areas such as:
- Management of patients with chronic diseases
- Perform venepuncture and electrocardiography
- Undertake wound care / management / dressing techniques
- Perform cervical screening and promote breast awareness
- Administer adult and paediatric injections under an individualised prescription or PGD, ensuring safe storage, rotation and disposal of vaccines and drugs
- Provide advice on lifestyle issues, assist and support patients in changing their unhealthy behaviours and refer appropriately
- Undertake annual training and demonstrate competency in anaphylaxis and resuscitation techniques
The role will offer you the opportunity to build on your experience, skills and competence of working effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team as you will work alongside fellow professionals within the practice in support of one another.
About the candidate
You will have the following skills and qualifications:
- A relevant nursing degree and at least 2 years post qualification experience in a General Practice setting or equivalent
- Current NMC registration with an active PIN
- Fundamentals of Practice Nursing course (General Practice Nurse Foundation Programme) or equivalent experience or qualifications
- Competence to undertake Asthma, COPD and Diabetic clinics / reviews and hold relevant certificates
- Evidence of clinical skills and experience in treatment room consultation, phlebotomy, ECG recording, screening, management of long-term conditions, cervical cytology sampling, vaccinations and immunisations, assisting with minor surgery, dressing and wound care and recording spirometry
- Compassionate, empathetic approach and demonstrable kindness in all aspects of your work as well as valuing the dignity of our patients, relatives, carers and colleagues.
- Knowledge and application of supporting long-term conditions.
- Insight and understanding of current issues in nursing and NHS.
- Experience of SystmOne would be advantageous but not essential as full training will be provided.

We are a small training and dispensing practice with a clinical team of GP’s, ANP’s and nurses, serving a patient population of 6,000 patients. We operate a SystmOne clinical system with a history of excellent QOF achievement and a CQC rating of outstanding. We are a member of the Dengie and South Woodham Ferrers Primary Care Network.
